CBC's Promo Girl Revealed at Last

Since last summer, I've had a thing for Promo Girl, the saucy voice that runs teasers for various CBC Radio programs. Unlike the staid Corp, Promo Girl is lively, off-beat, young and willing to take a risk.

Okay, I know the voice and the writing are done by two different people, but I can dream, can't I?

Always willing to pursue a story to the bitter end, the Globe and Mail revealed all in an entertainment section article - Promo Girl is actually Toronto actress Shauna MacDonald, originally from Antigonish, Nova Scotia.Macdonald_shauna

After an entertaining summer of listening to Promo Girl shake up the sometimes overly serious airwaves of the CBC, I half expected her to go the way of most summer replacements on the Corp. But thankfully, she has become a regular fixture, voicing short segments promoting various shows.

She's even had an encounter with "The Voice", another CBC fixture. Anyone who listens to The Current weekday mornings knows The Voice as the anonymous guy who intros the excellent current affairs show hosted by Anna Maria Tremonti.

Now that they've outed Promo Girl, it's only a matter of time before The Globe sends a crack team to uncover the identity of The Voice (his voice is mechanically altered, so he may be harder to catch than MacDonald turned out to be). I envision a stake-out around the CBC broadcast centre, with parabolic microphones and five or six seasoned investigative reporters on the story...

MacDonald has appeared in Trailer Park Boys, Shattered City: The Halifax Explosion, and  The Porcelain Pussy. Look for her in Saint Ralph, which the Globe says is coming to theatres in April.

According to a Globe article in November 2003, The Voice is former sideshow strong man/human dartboard Stephen Hart. At 6' 11", Hart has a naturally deep voice -- no alterations are done.

Cool. Thanks for the tip. I stand corrected on the voice treatment thing. Are there no secrets left? Next thing you know, someone will publish the secret ingredients to Coke and to Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Promo girl... on TPB?

Is she the cop who hooks up with Julian?

DO you even notice comments from long-ago posts?
