Warren Bickford and IABC staff have done a good job of relaunching the IABC blog.
The extent to which members and non-members of the International Association of Business Communicators want to engage in discussion can be seen by the many comments being posted. And Bickford encourages the discussion by answering comments and offering his opinions.
I've maintained all along that merely publishing a blog won't solve all IABC's problems. But the way The IABC Cafe is set up is a step in the right direction.
I suspect the task of keeping the blog updated will at times seem like a chore for the soon-to-be IABC chairman. He is wise to signal up front that he plans on bringing in guest bloggers to help with the task.
He also seems to be learning that the give and take of discussion that takes place all the time among communications people via e-mail, phone calls, etc., can just as easily take place in a public forum. And if he's going to spend the time crafting a reply to a weighty question, it reaches far more people when he does it on the blog.
