As if winning a lengthy, unpleasant trademark dispute in 2003 wasn't enough, web developer Hank Mishkoff scored a publicity home run when he submitted his Taubman Sucks web site to Boing Boing. The resulting one paragraph blurb How to Defend Yourself Against Domain Trademark Shakedowns brought an avalanche of new interest to Mishkoff's site. The item got picked up by Seth Godin and others, leading to 500,000 hits to the www.taubmansucks.com web site in one week.
For the back story, see my item Why Be Polite When You Can Be Nasty, or check out any of the dozens of other blog postings listed on Mishkoff's site.
Mishkoff sent a bulk e-mail today, describing his surprise at the speed with which his story travelled from blog to blog. He explains that, though he knew about blogs, he didn't know much about them.
For a graphic representation of the quick rise in blog postings, here is a graph from BlogPulse. You can expect blogs and Hank's site to show another spike this week as a result of his follow-up e-mail to bloggers.
